What happened
- Feasible additional capacity revised up from 6 GW to about 7 GW, taking total rated capacity to roughly 9.2 GW by the mid-2030s.
- Around $150 billion invested by 2030 for about 4 GW, rising to about $260 billion by the mid-2030s.
- About 23 GW has been announced. Of that, 3.6 GW is under construction or expanding and 2 GW is approved or in pre-construction.
- As of June 2026, 225 projects were seeking almost 67 GW of grid connections, and more than a third of requests were withdrawn over the past year.
Why it matters
The forecast puts a date on the commissioning peak. Halls built in FY28 and FY29 will compete for the same specialist crews in the same windows, so owners who lock in flushing and commissioning capacity early will hold their energisation dates.
